Michelle Hromin is a New York based Croatian-American clarinetist specializing in classical and contemporary music. She recently collaborated with the Metropolitan Opera and countertenor Anthony Roth Constanzo to give a preview performance of Philip Glass’s opera

Ahknaten at the Brooklyn Museum. During her time in the New York Youth Symphony, Michelle has collaborated with artists such as Julia Bullock and DeMarre McGill. She was named the winner of the 2019 Sidney Forrest Clarinet Competition and was featured as a guest artist with the Long Island Youth Orchestra and the Taconic Opera.

She has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and with the 1:2:1 Winds Festival, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute, and with the International Chamber Orchestra of America. She has served as principal clarinet of the New York Youth Symphony and Mannes Orchestra.

To promote her Croatian heritage, Michelle recently launched Kalendar : 12 Miniatures for Solo Clarinet, a year-long project that aims to bring attention to the South Slavic region of Europe. Through her collaboration with Macedonian-Canadian composer Michael Spiroff, Michelle will premiere 12 new miniatures based on the 12 months of the Slavic Calendar over the course of 2021. She will also be releasing an EP of the title work Kalendar in late 2021.

Michelle is a teaching artist with In The Pocket NYC, a collective of teaching musicians aimed to nourish the presence of quality live music and music education. She has been featured in the Neighborhood Classics Concert Series, founded by pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and has curated her own concert for the series at PS 234. She is passionate about education, and maintains an active private teaching studio. She is currently finishing up her Bachelor of Music degree at the Mannes School of Music under the tutelage of Jon Manasse.
