Hanna Inui

Hanna Inui (she/her) is a Japanese pianist, composer, and improviser residing in Brooklyn, New York.

Hanna graduated The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music with honors, and was one of the first ten recipients of the John Coltrane Award.  While juggling between music producing, teaching, and a very few performance opportunities given through this time, Hanna began to explore other mediums than piano to incorporate to her original pieces.  One of her series, “Hawking Solfege”, incorporates solfege singing used for music education, transformed into a soothing yet subtle  Hanna’s performance seamlessly exploring styles from classical music and the language of Black American music.

She is the arranger and pianist for Reggie Workman and Maya Milenovic Workman’s Guggenheim Fellowship Awarded project, “Ophelia’s Water” which is planned to be filmed and performed in summer 2021.

Her first piano solo single, “Lights, Like Running Horses” will be released on Jan 23, for streaming and download only on Bandcamp.
