La Voix Humaine
The Show
La Voix Humaine, a one-act, one-woman show by Francis Poulenc, is a searing glimpse into the life of a woman and her last phone call with her lover of five years. Based on the semi-autobiographical play by Jean Cocteau, the hour-long production will play out in real time in a Soho loft.
Presaging the era of the text break-up, and digitally mediated relationships, Cocteau and Poulenc have conjured into carnal, lucid focus the tremendous power over our humanity of the voice on the other end of the line. The telephone is the inescapable vehicle through which Elle fervidly spins precious last moments of connection with all that remains–the voice.
